Here is what I’m currently working on. My very first cat painting. I can see now that I need to brighten the fur on the chest quite a bit more. The colors are a little off, the background is actually painted light blue to match the eyes.
Should I add a shadow under the body?
I’d love to know what you think.

No surprise here. EmmaLee.  You can paint a cat as well as any dog you have ever done.

The eyes are incredible.  Yes, bring more light into his chest.  And yes cast a shadow under him on whatever he is resting his paws on.

This is going to thrill the owner!

Thank you so much Mea and Liz! I was excited to paint something different but it was a challenge for sure. Here is a better photo, not sure why the other one looked so dark.

   EmmaLee an absolutely stunning painting of Sammy.  You have done a wonderful job as per usual and I would agree with Mea to give him some grounding. It looks as if he is leaning on some cushion.   A truly great job and your client will no doubt be ecstatic with this painting.   Patricia

Thank you Nolan, Neil, Gita and Patricia! I was worried I over did it with all those tiny hairs. I didn’t want him to look wirey.
Patricia-I agree it needs some grounding but the thing he’s laying on is at an odd angle and I didn’t think I should add it to the painting. The light is coming from front right, so I’m trying to decide how I should add the shadow...

EmmaLee, Dennis hit the nail on the head, Sammy's paw needs something to rest on.  I am not always clear in explaining what I mean but Dennis nailed it.  It is a beautiful painting of Sammy and I actually had to look twice to see which was the photograph and which was your painting. You are really a very good artist.

Thank you Dennis, Patricia and MaryLou!!
I gave him something to rest his paw on.
Does this look better? Does it need tweaking?
