Your barn looks very well done to me. Such a lovely scene.

Thankyou Patricia and EmmaLee for your encouragement. I just see so many things that aren't right, but I suppose it's a matter of practice, practice, practice and the finer tuning will eventually come :)

Tone, Blend n Value. Using HB. In my haste to get cracking & draw something, I got more & more confused as to how to get value/tone out of so many pencils, pressing hard in dark areas & erasers, so now I've realised I needed to go back to Square 1. Just used an HB & tried not to press as hard through the continuim.. Is this right? Am I still not getting enough variations? I would appreciate any feedback thanks :)

the way to remember it is : start with a hard pencil and press lightly, when you need to go darker, use the next softer pencil using the same pressure. It is only when you get to the B and softer that you can start to apply pressure to your pencil, but even then as little as possible. I only apply pressure on the pencil in order to get small changes in shading.

In other words rather choose a softer pencil than press hard.
It is only when choosing a softer pencil doesn't get you dark enough that you start to apply pressure to the pencil.
The reason we do this is so that you can fix mistakes. It is easy to erase marks added softly and impossible to erase dents in the paper due to the pressure applied by the pencil.

You have drawn a really good barn :yippee: :yippee: :yippee:
If I was fussy I would suggest darkening the inside of the window - use horizontal strokes this time. To get it dark, now you can apply pressure to the pencil as it is the darkest tonal value in the sketch O0

Thank you EmmaLee.  :)
Picking up where I left off on my drawing course, I realised I hadn't done this Day prac...it was like finding the missing piece of a jigsaw. I found it challenging, but now makes so much sense in working on tonal/values, that i couldn't quite understand in the drawings i had progressed to.
