Here is my submission, Watercolour, 4 pyramids, (not sure if they appear in real in this sequence) and the Camel.

Oh Mea I'm so glad you submitted your painting,  i love seeing what everyone does and how they go about it, & i'm really intrigued by your use of chocolate...Is that REAL chocolate or do you make your own paint? It really makes your painting look rich.

Great painting Bill - I love the camel

Here's my drawing. 4 x Humans & 1 Cray boat. I found this challenge like jumping into the deep sea. With the 1st challenge I wanted to challenge myself to create from a personal experience with just focusing on perspective.
With this one I tried - perspective again with additions & also following the light source.
Thanks Nolan... it was a tough challenge for me, but I'm glad I persisted

Glad you were able to correct your entry Mea.   :)  You handbag looks like gold lame now.

Bill and Trace, your paintings are nicely done however, sorry to say, I do believe we are supposed to do a still life with 4 items matching (done in one color including the background)  and the 5th item something different and in a different color, as in Nolan's example with the axe.

"The items from the kitchen as well as the background have been painted in one colour. The odd item (the axe) is then painted in another colour to make it stand out as the focal point"

Here is the example from the tutorial:

Thanks, Trace.  Yes, I make my own paint from organic cacao powder/gum arabic/water.

Thanks, Mary Lou.  Oooh, gold lame, la-di-dah.  Now I need a fancy place to go to.

Since there seems to be general confusion on the rules for this challenge, I hope Trace and Bill can resubmit, too.

Nolan, sorry I still have some questions.
1. Does it have to be only 4 objects and 1 odd object? Or any other number?
2. Can the odd object have various colours in it?
3. Can I use mixed media for the odd subject AND for the monochrome, for eg. pen and ink and shades of black?
4. Does the example below follow the rules? Poppies in monochrome and the squirrel as odd subject in a different colour. This is NOT my submission. I can remove it after your answer.
Thank you. I do not want to misunderstand the challenge rules

I don't think we should be too strict on it being a still life. Tracey and Bill have created paintings which have four matching items plus an odd one and we can see they were created to follow the brief. I am happy with them as entrants.

Gita, in your example however the four items are not clearly defined so you can't tell the four items from the background.
You can use any medium for your challenge entries, these is no medium requirement.

The odd item can have spots of other colours in it, but should be overall, one contrasting colour.

:thankyou: Annie, Trace, Mary Lou, Mea. Thanks Nolan, I assumed from your clarification on my boats the definition of 'still Life'.

Trace,
It is wonderful that you persist with the challenges.  We all learn from it, and from each other.

Great seascape.  The red really focus the boat

Ohoh!  Now I am confused about the 5th object...

Is it a monochrome using a different color OR a colour glaze over the monochrone used for the other 4 objects and the background?

Oh yes Annie, that’s also something I would like to know. But I assume that the odd subject is in various shades of ANY contrasting colour. A colour glaze over a monochrome 5 th object will have the same result, I suppose.
Nolan says the 5 th object could have spots of further colours in it.
Am I right, Nolan?
Wow, this is going to be a thrilling challenge! I am so curious to see the entry paintings.. :yippee: :yippee:
