Block In of colors, covering white canvas.
The tracing is the size of the flower I wanted; I set the lily off center.

looking great

I am glad you set the lily off centre otherwise it would looked wrong, so well done

What I would like to see are some dark values around the centre. Are you able to post the reference for me so I can take a look?

Nolan,
I enlarged the photo so I can see it better.
I have begun to look at where the darks and lights are on each petal. It looks like this flower will be a doozie!  I think the shadows on the flower are interesting.

Should I go with simple blending of colors or try the mottled look?    I won’t get to the yellow center for a while yet or the bee. Maybe won’t try the bee? Thanks for your advice.

Working on petals, not quite done.  At this point, all I can say is that I’m glad Nolan showed me how to trace a picture! ~ Liz

there you go, see how much more depth you are getting now that you are spotting the tonal values inside each petal better :yippee: :yippee: :yippee:

PS - I just use plain shadings inside each petal until the shape is correct, then I return to add any textures / ribbed effects O0

I think I won’t do the honey bee.  It would be about 3/4 inch in length.-Liz  ::)
