Good drawing and great sky colours Mary Lou.You might add some shadows to indicate the sun position?

A very nice scene close to my heart MaryLou.  :smitten:    I know sometimes it is most difficult to ascertain light direction in scenes just as this, but I do agree with Bill about adding a few indications of light direction. I think it would help add a bit more dimension to the scene.

This is nice Mary-Lou! The sand has a similar yellow like the Sky. Was it intentional?

Thank you Gita.  Here I have posted the photo from pixabay that I used as reference.  I appears to me that the sun is setting?  I think that strip of yellow is the water, not the beach, with sun shining on it. (When I enlarged the photo, it appears there is a boat facing the viewer over the dingy) .  This was a difficult painting for me, and why I asked for your opinions.  I tried to give the painting more life by brightening the colors but I think I overdid it.  It was headed for the bin but my husband said to post it and see what others thought, he likes it.  I did add in some more darks on the sails and behind both boats, not sure where else to put shadows.  I appreciate your input!

    Very nicely done MaryLou, you are doing so well. While I am no expert, I feel that if you "softened" the clouds and horizon as per the reference photo, it would really enhance your painting but that is just my humble opinion.

Thank you Patricia.  I don't think I can soften the sky, or the sunlit strip as I used the wrong yellow, staining and actually completely wrong hue.  As I said I was going for a more bold sky and water but think I did overdo it.  I did not want it to look like the photo but more lively.  I chose the wrong yellow, (Should have known better), was ready to toss it but my husband likes it!   :crazy2:

It’s difficult to judge in the photo if it’s sand or water. The sky like you said is somewhat softer in colour than the “ sand”.
Your rendition is colourful and bright which is also fine, Mary Lou!

O0 The extra bit of colour on the sails made a big difference. I´d say... job well done! I like it.

Mary Lou, took a closer look again. You have a strip of water in the distance which follows the yellow strip (sand? water?) which the photo doesn’t. If it was intentional, then the yellow strip would be a reflection of the sky colour on the water. Then, the yellow might need some ripples.
Also, my humble opinion. Hope it makes sense.
Cheers, Gita
