Well done and good on you for sticking with it Kathy. Paper can make or break a painting as can the quality of paints. When I started, I used a very cheap Reeves w/c set I found in Trinidad, and the paper... I can't even remember what it was other than horrid. I eventually graduated up to a Cotman #140 CP block and paints. They were like heaven! A lot of my beginning lessons were done using those materials. Another was The Langton by Daler Rowney #140 CP pad. I did struggle a lot with The Langton paper. I now use Arches #140 CP exclusively at least until I run out. Two years ago Lloyd bought me a whole role and had it sent to us while in the US Virgin Islands. It was so easy to have things sent there from us mainland. Prior to that i used whatever i could find. I did find some good papers in a tiny art shop in Martinique. I miss that little shop...they had everything jammed in that little space!Try different papers and find one that best suits you. The same applies to different paints and brushes. Explore and experiment until you find the combination that works best for you....and have fun along the way.
