When tracing the berry drawing, should I not sketch the veins in the leaves? On the finished version the veins are open to the center vein. It’s different from the unfinished sketch. When I trace the picture, the lines detract from the drawing. I am very new to this & am just learning to draw. I am very pleased with the offered course, Let’s Draw, but am a bit confused on the differences between the starting & finished pictures. I appreciate any input given. Thank you.

Hi Lynne
You can draw in the veins. They are very prominent in this drawing so I would draw them in as lightly as I can.
Generally though, when the veins are not prominent I would not draw them in.
So if you find the veins detract, then feel free to use your artist license to leave them out  O0

I finally finished shading the berry drawing & I will have to say that it was much more difficult than I expected. I’m certain that I learned a great deal just by shading this picture. Thank you Nolan, for all you do. I couldn’t be more satisfied that I enrolled in this course. Your topic coverage and demonstrations have been so helpful. I’ve read several books & watched many YouTube videos, only to be left disappointed & frustrated, but your instruction is truly spot on. I have already written a review for the course & will be signing up for more after I finish this one. Finally I will be able to draw for my own enjoyment. Thank you again & looking forward to my next assignment.

After you have uploaded the photo, remember to copy and paste the bbc embed code into your reply here.
Where you paste that code is where the image will appear when people read it. O0
Your drawing looks great. If you continue like this I can't wait to see what your drawings will be like by the end of the course :yippee: :yippee: :yippee:

Tip - I will shortly merge all your posts inside the Lets Draw area into one topic called LA BEggs' Lets Draw course. Then in future you can just go to that topic and reply to it, posting your next drawing. That way all your course drawings and questions will stay together and will be easy to reference later O0

Thank you so much Molly. I am unsure as to your experience, but whatever it is, you will enjoy this course. I am 66 and have never drawn before but Nolan makes everything so understandable. Good luck!

Thank you for your kind words, Nolan. I was a secondary and college math teacher for 26 years…I know how hard it can be to convey a concept and I am so happy to see that you approach teaching art in the same way I taught math to my students…it’s very rewarding. I don’t know how you stay on top of it all. You’re fantastic!  :thankyou:

I hope I’m posting this correctly, Nolan. This was a hard project, but I loved shading all of the textures. I had to erase quite a bit & should’ve started over. I’m unsure of its presentation & may do it again for my own benefit. The bottom stones aren’t showing very well in the photo. I’ve always wanted to visit New Zealand so I googled your city…truly beautiful & I imagine a great deal of inspiration. Looking forward to the cup project.
