What is a scribe?

Having purchased a few classes/courses over the weekend - thank you Nolan, I love a bargain!! - what on earth is a scribe? Where do I get it from (Amazon link please) or what household instrument could be used as an equivalent?

If you are talking about scribing lines in art paper you can use an empty biro or a knitting needle. Anything that will score a mark in the paper but doesn't cut through it.

Thanks Ray. That's exactly right and just what I needed to know. Nolan used a scribe in the Chickadee drawing that I purchased over the weekend and I hadn't got a clue what it was. Now to find an empty biro.... (I don't knit )

The scribe I used in that class was a metal scribe / punch that you can get from your local hardware store. I have since discovered a better tool to do the job which is called an embossing tool and it looks like this:
