I learned quite a bit from this painting.  I used tape to mask the figures so I could do the background without worrying.  But, I did run into a problem getting the tape off the paper where I didn't want it and the exacto knife left deep lines in the paper.  The problem area was between both figures.  I tried my best to hide this error.  Your comments and suggestions are appreciated.

I think you have done an excellent job with this painting :congrats:
Beautiful skin tones as well!

I must say that you can't see the problems in the photo.

What you can look for is low tack masking tape. Here by us it is coloured green and it doesn't rip the paper.

When cutting the tape on the canvas / paper, use a super sharp blade so you don't cut into the paper - maybe practice on a spare paper to get the feel of how hard you can press to only cut through the tape O0

Yes an excellent painting.
For watercolour I always use Masking Fluid. The best brand I have found is the 'Pebeo' blue drawing gum.

Nolan, thank you, I am glad I was able to hide those lines I caused with the knife.  What I tried was tape that I could see through, but certainly will use a low tack tape as you described the next time I try this technique.

Bill, thank you, I use masking fluid as well but wanted to try the tape technique for a large area.  It really is a great technique as long as you are careful with the knife and the tape doesn't rip the paper.  I should have done a test first.

Thank you Maria. Tape can be a problem, I am usually very careful but mistakes happen.
