This is an 8x10” commission charcoal drawing on toned paper. I hyped up the contrast a bit (maybe too much?) and also added the impression of a flopped down ear on the left.
Do you see anything I need to do to improve this one? I feel like it isn’t complete yet.

Well done EmmaLee, I feel that the background need to be lighter to separate it from the head hair.

Thank you Bill. I wish I would have chosen a lighter paper to draw on. I think what I’ll try first is lighten the fur on the head to create more contrast against the background. Really the whole dog could probably  go lighter. I’ll work on it a bit more and see if I can brighten the dog more.

I spent a little more time on Chato’s portrait this morning. What do you think? Did I create better contrast from the background? Should I keep on or call it finished?

Thank you, Bill. I’m so glad you mentioned creating a better contrast between the background and the top of his head. It was good advice and Chato’s owner is pleased with the result.
