I had so much fun with this class. It really boosted my confidence in trying to understand the colour wheel, blending & shading of colours.

But I've made a huge bungle now & hoping Nolan, Dennis you may be able to advise.
To give to my son, who has a wood heater, I decided to varnish/seal it, so that dust wouldn't affect it... But the clear matt varnish I used ( from a craft store, that's been in a cupboard for a few years) was like thick cream/soft butter consistency & dried leaving white sploggy marks every where.
So I decided to wash it off with warm soapy water, which has sort of mostly restored it.
For future, Is it ok to wash off? & should I not worry about sealing/varnishing please?

The viscosity of the varnish should be been a warning sign it was old. But even fresh varnish can give milky streaks, especially if you varnish while it is humid as moisture gets trapped inside the varnish.
Often leaving the streaks to cure over several days will make then go away.
You where very brave, and took a big risk washing the painting as it is an acrylic which hasn't cure itself yet
The only thing I can suggest at this point is to leave the varnish to cure fully to see if it goes transparent again.
I do recommend varnishing acrylic paintings because it adds a level of water damage protection to the painting.

PS - That milky problem is the reason why I don't varnish with the brush on varnish anymore. I use the spray on varnish.

Thank you so much, Dennis, MaryLou, Gita, Annie, Nolan. This was such a fun class, & I was so surprised that my wobbly brush strokes didn't seem to matter Good news is that the varnish hasn't streaked and you can't notice that I had washed it off. My son is over the Mooo..n with it.
