Hi! I just started taking Paintbasket classes a few days ago.  Here is my first attempt at posting a pic in a thread.  I do a lot of trading in Artist Trading Cards (ATCs), so this is 2.5x3.5 inches.

Way to go, KP.  Glad you got to post your work.

Beautiful work on the magnolia.  Love the background.

How about starting a thread under the Anything Arty topic on the FORUM page to tell us about Artist Trading Cards.  I've seen the blank cards in the stores but don't know much about the practice.

So glad you brought a new dimension to our site.  Look forward to hearing more about ATC's.

Nicely done KPinAK,  what you need to practice here is blending/softening some of the edges of the shadings inside the petals. Just need to lose some of those hard lines.

Good job.
Cheers, Val

I *really* appreciate the feedback & suggestions!  I'll be traveling the next few weeks then hope to have a chance to post in "anything artsy" about artist trading cards.  Maybe I'll even have some watercolors of the places I visit to post.  It's so nice to have a technique to focus on while I'm doing that--blending/softening my shadings when appropriate (while still remembering to shade--most recent comments i got from a juried things said I needed to shade more, that my paintings needed more value contrast).  Loving these classes and the forum!!
All constructive feedback welcome & appreciated!

So pretty, KathyS.  Magnolia trees are so lovely.  We had one in our backyard.  Neighbors would come to sit under it because it was always cooler under its shade.

:yippee: This was a favourite lesson of mine. You have done an excellent job giving the petals dimension.

:thankyou: Thank you Val, Dennis, Mea, and Lisa.

This lesson was really fun. I say that about all the lessons, don't I?  :P It's because they are all awesome lessons!  :yippee:

Val, when I first saw this class, I wasn't all that crazy about the painting. Now, I'm with you. It is one of my favorites.

Mea, I have a young magnolia tree in my front yard. There are many all throughout Riverside. Our trees here have white flowers. Quite beautiful. I had to look on the Internet to see the flower we painted as I've never seen a pink magnolia before.

:thankyou: Thank you so much Patricia and Retta. Your encouragement is deeply appreciated. I'm hoping one day soon to have enough technique and practice behind me that I can paint a subject of my own.   :painting:
