How come no one mentioned the sludge factor?  I didn't care for that at all...I really don't like the pencils for big spaces.

Natalie, good for you in doing the painting

I think everyone can learn a lesson from this one re the "sludge factor". When using watercolour pencils don't try to colour in the whole painting as if you are using colour pencils per se. (I think you were actually doing this if I judge correctly) When you wet the applied pencil it darkens up the colour. So, if you want a very light colour, apply the pencil very lightly over the area (no need to cover it up completely with the pencil).

Do some practicing on a separate piece of paper to get the feel of applying the water.
Some very realistic paintings can be made using this technique - like all else, it takes practice

Natalie, please do another one for me O0

Natalie,

I like your critter.  If you call it 'sludge," I call it character.  He's got style!

Natalie. . .I found watercolour pencils hard to work with too. . . .made a terrible mess, way more sludge than you did  :2funny:   Yours looks fine, fine, fine compared to mine!! Good luck on the next one, can't wait to see what you do  :gl2:
