Nolan, I have to admit that I was neglected on this front. So, today I went out and treat myself to a .....iPhone 4S!  :yippee:

Lillian, I'm struggling to choose which gadget to play with!  :D  I got away with acquiring my new iPhone 4S http://www.apple.com/iphone/ by telling Sue that she pinched my iPad 3 and that was very unfair!! Seriously, she has proper nabbed it and is playing on a very artistic looking game called 'Catapult King'! (Little does she know how much these iPhones are!  ;D )

I understand completely Tony, I encourage people to never fully grow up ... takes all the fun out of life. BUT...as all us children know...we can also be impatient....

Hi Tony,

Re your Color Mixing Recipes book you mentioned in your June 1st post, I just came across a book on Amazon.com

Color Mixing Bible: All You'Ll Ever Need to Know About Mixing Pigments in Oil, Acrylic, Watercolor, Gouache, Soft Pastel, Pencil, and Ink [Paperback]  It's an older version, Publisher: Watson-Guptill (April 1, 2002)

I'm wondering how it compares with the new one you talked about, Tony.  Sounds interesting, anyway.

I just want to keep things simple.  I'm relying on Dennis and Nolan for their expert opinion and I don't want to complicate things.

I'm wondering though, if this would be a worthwhile purchase.

Lillian, I can only really remark on the book I have. I don't know how it compares to the one you mention but, I can say that the investment in my version was money well spent.
The book is a reference first and foremost. You determine your requirements from the index at the back and, by going to the 'colour recipes' to compare. From there you see the proportions of paint mixes that make it. These are measures accurately on a grid (you scrape off the paint and transfer to your palate so you can clean the grid and pop it back in the book).
I posted information about a new version that's due out sometime this year.  Here's a link to it: http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/1600582834/ref=ox_sc_act_title_2?ie=UTF8&m=A3P5ROKL5A1OLE
I hope this helps.
Tony ;)  :painting:

I'm going to be watching for it,   :thankyou: Tony.

I see there was a new one out, April 30, 2012 by the same author, William F. Powel,  but just for landscapes.

"Color Mixing Recipes for Landscapes: Mixing recipes for more than 400 color combinations"

The one you refer to will be comprehensive, useful for all mediums.  I will seriously consider getting that one.  I will bookmark this page.  Spiral bound too!  How handy.

I'm not quite clear on the grid pallet.  Is it a clear sheet that you would use to match the color of the subject?

Tony, I think I like your painting more than the actual reference photograph.   O0  Amazing work my friend.

I just realised how long I've dragged this painting on for!... Since April
I've put my new gadgets aside (as much as it pains me!) and, got my paints out.  :yippee: I intend to get this painting finished this week. (if I can resist 'Temple Run' and 'Catapult King' on my iPad!  :D)

It's baking time. The bread is calling me and, the spoon wants some polishing. I've done a bit of the shadowing and, I need to do tweaks to the silver holders.  :painting:
I'll post 2 more progress reports over the next week and then, draw this thread to a close on completion!  ;)
