Hi everyone,

Still catching up. Here is my attempt at the introduction to waterfalls. Let me know what you think.

Batman,   very nice!   Due to the 'challenges" I had with this one, I can really appreciate how very well you did!!

I'll share my "Challenges" so that other might avoid them.  1) did not clearly visualize / think through the White Water BEFORE laying in the making fluid.  2) proceeded to paint in the 'middle pool' as if the  masking fluid was correct 3)  Went too dark trying to compensate, which compounded the errors.

Luckily water color is very forgiving 'cause I redid the center section 3 times  :D  and still had to go back in and lighten the bottom section of water

Please!! any other suggestions on how to improve this one???

:thankyou: very much Lillian, Val, jennylynn, C.Bodine, GailBrown, Rita and pollywag. Whew!

Such positive feedback is very encouraging to my :painting:.

Brian, as for yours - to me, there aren't enough darks/reds/tonal shifts. It's a nice pretty picture, but for some reason to me it just seems to lack that something to give it that little extra depth/drama/zing. I don't know if I quite expressed myself clearly enough there... Probably  you.

batman, you made perfect sense..  I agree, part of it is the scan, part of it is in the painting.

i had not checked the image after posting,  even with the scan going "light" I agree with you, there is something missing

thank you for the input

What I'm seeing Brian, is my eye is being pulled to the darker band of blue, especially to the right side where it seems to form an arrow. It really forms a hard line across the bottom of the first little fall. I agree that the surrounding land/hills in the back need a little colour added. (red or orange)
Great little bird there!  Good job.

Batman...great job. You are sailing right along and your pics are really nice.

Bri....just a little color and lift out some blue, and you have a great picture.

Good for both of you.

Brian, it might be hard to lift out some of that dark blue band and once you've lost the white under the masking fluid, there's no getting it back.

You can try to lift out as much as possible and try some Chinese white or white guache where you intended to keep the white from the masking fluid.  The white watercolor paints are opaque and can tend to stand out in a painting, kind of creating a focal point where you don't want one.  Well, that's been my experience at least.

Over all, you did a nice painting.  I like your bird too.  He's diligently watching for something yummy to float downstream.

I'm looking forward to seeing what Dennis has to say.
