I remember when I was married I wanted a plain sheath of Arum Lilies...my dad vetoed that, said they reminded him of funerals. To which I replied..... ' and your point would be? '
Ended up with sheath of white roses.

JM very nice painting
Only one problem. The insides of the lilies are too stripey. Take a damp brush and merge the colours smoothly together. Do that and you will have a lovely painting.

Hi everyone,
Here are my Arum Lilies. I know the background is a lot richer purple than Dennis' - that's how I wanted it.
The scan doesn't show the painting the bestl (even though the thumbnail is more like the painting...) The dark spots at toppish right and left near the petals are where my fingers are pressing the A3 sheet down onto the A4 scanner bed - not actually part of the painting.
Let me know what you think.
Batman.

Very nice Bman. I like the way your shadings fade out, nicely done. The dark background really gets the lilies standing out. Good job.

As I said before It's really interesting seeing all the different backgrounds and the changes they make to the feel of the lillies. We've all gone quite bold rather than pastel and delicate! Maybe it's got something to do with the quality of the flowers.
I love them but i've spent nearly 10 years trying to get them out of my garden - they are a weed and a pest in New Zealand.
Batman the contrast in yours is brilliant and Jersey girl your bright, original background colour gives the painting a very modern look.

I really like your lilies, Batman.
You must feel sooooo good about being caught up with the lessons. It's quite an accomplishment, you've been working at in consistently. I can see that your painting has really improved over time.
Karen, if these are weeds, I wish we had a few of them here in the northern hemisphere. When I was younger, we used to have lots of flowers. One spring, I was wondering what in the world those things were coming up in the front bed right where I could see it from the front window. I had never seen anything like that before. Well it just kept coming and eventually, it was a Calla Lily! It was a sight to behold. Hubby had planted the bulbs to surprise me.
Somewhere I have a photo, will have to go searching for it. It didn't come up the next year. Our winters are too harsh. I should have dug up the bulbs and stored them 'til spring.

Dramatic and beautiful Batman!
I second what Lillian says Karen. I'd take Lillies anyday over the Kudzu vines I have invading my yard!

Val, Rita, C.Bodine, Karen, Nina, Lillian, Natalie, and Dianne. WHEW!!!
It think it is great that more peeps are going with bolder colours instead of the pastelly washed out regular stuff.
It has it's place, but isn't really for me. I like mine to say "I'm here!!! Be
!!!"
Again, thanks for the encouragement.
