Sally you did a beautifull rhino. The skin looks leathery.

I have not seen the big 5 for awhile. So thought I would take a look back. I can only say
WOW! WOW! WOW! WOW!
You all did an awesome job.

Details
Maybe I should just give up with this one and try a new one. Nolan I used Zellen's modelling paste and it's like plastic and the paint does not cling to it. I couldn't use the cling wrap, it takes off the paste which is just as clingy as the wrap.

lol, well at least you did manage to get some texture in.
I am presuming you haven't shaded the horns yet?

No Nolan I have not done the horns or the eye and I am not going to. Tomorrow I will get some "polly fill" and re-do the rhino and the rest of the big 5. I never listen, that's why when I first started painting, the woman tutor told other students I do what I want and do not listen to her, so I never went back. He he he

Louisa I think your rhino isn't all that bad. Perhaps you still might salvage it with the shading on the husk and finishing the eye. The texture looks so realistic, at least from what I see.

Louisa,
I admire you for trying this. So far, I have watched the video and bought the paste.
I think you are off to a good start. It will all come together and look good.

Louisa, I did not even have the courage to post my buffalo, he has a great set of horns but little else! My daughter says he looks like a pussy cat!
Also have noticed that The canvas has warped, so not too enthralled with the process. I think when I get around to these again, I might just do the painting and forget the paste. We all seem to have had the same problems when I read the posts, so perhaps Nolan has a secret recipe for his paste,
I noticed another beautiful painting of yours on the forum, but couldn't find a feed for it, so telling you here, it is BEAUTIFUL!

Fiona, when you use the paste so thick, the canvas does warp a bit, that is normal, but it shouldn't warp so much that you can't frame it.
You do get different brands of paste, so you just have to try a few different brands until you find one that works. With you guys in South Africa, you should be able to use the premixed Polyfilla as that is what I used, unless they have changed their recipe in the meantime of course
