Hi everyone,

This is my first solo big scale Acrylics painting. :yippee:

An abstract (I guess) design I came up with that I've titled "Higher Power"

The canvas is a double thick, 91cm x 91cm (about 3 foot by 3 foot for those using old world measurements) and I used Matisse Structure Acrylic paint.

Higher Power
Higher Power

You'll probably note my lack of bright colour usage.  :2funny: :2funny: :2funny: Take from it what you will and let me know what you think.

Love the bright color and use of symbols.

Well It is different. I don't think I would put it on my bedroom wall. I would not be able to sleep, because I would feel like I was being watched.  :2funny: :2funny: :2funny:

Nice batman...I'm doing an abstract right now too.
The moment you find yourself mostly satisfied with a painting and think you'll "just quickly" do this or that, that's the moment to stop completely. Take the painting off your easel and put it aside for at least 24 hours, then reassess whether it really needs that tweak.

:thankyou: Saraharch. Precisely what I was aiming for. So it seems I hit the mark.  :yippee:

Nina, it is going in the hallway. I don't think anyone sane would put something like that in a bedroom!  you'd need to be :drunk: to :2funny: :2funny: :2funny:

:thankyou: Pat. Don't forget to post yours when you've finished  :painting:

Why is it called the Higher power?

Maryna, that's part of the mystique of Abstract. Why don't you suggest it's meaning for you? >:D

Let's just say it came to me based on some discussions with others...

 :thankyou: Brian. LOL.

As I said Pat, Abstract allows you to draw your own conclusions...  :2funny:

Ibatman...i wasn't trying to be funny and demeaning. I only suggested what I thought you were referring to (battery symbol).   Your piece took work and should be respected.

I thought I'd help out those having some trouble with abstracts by giving this context...

It is based based on discussion with friends about God/Higher Powers/Spirituality/Mysticism, whatever you want to call it and the various symbols we/different cultures use to represent pretty much the same idea/concept.

So I doodled around and created my own symbol for a "Higher Power" whatever that may mean to anyone. So in this case the red symbolises the person, the eye is that thing that looks down on us and the arrow indicates that it is something "out there." The discussion got rather passionate, and someone said something along the lines of the Cross was the only true representation, and I think I said something along the lines of "...yeah but only to Christians..." and that was where my little symbol emerged from.

My point was that it is the idea behind the symbol that has meaning, not the symbol itself.

That's all there is to it really.
