Blue Gum

Wasn't sure if I should put this in Pen & Ink or Watercolour. Dennis has the class filed under Watercolour in the class list, so I put it here.
Don't really like this one. I've never liked pen & ink when other people do it. Somehow it always seems contrived. I really don't like this painting.... I don't know if it's because of the medium or because it's a bad painting.

Whatever are you talking about Linley? Surely it's not this beautiful painting!
This is gorgeous. Amazing textures, wonderful colourings.
Remember this... you don't have to like every painting that you do, there is always someone somewhere the will love what it represents to them. This is very well done, and like it or not...your talent is showing!

Some of 'em have to go Val. I can't keep them all, and I do need scrap paper!
. But I will wait a while and then re-evaluate. Won't be needing thscrap paper for a couple of weeks anyway as im in the process of having cataracts removed and my ne eyesight will take some getting used to. They tell me that colours will appear brighter as well as being able to see more clearly. And I will probably be able to mange without spectacles.
first one was done today, next one in 2 weeks. I am so lucky! Hope your face has reduced in size, and that your glasses are no longer skew-whiff.

I know what you mea Linley, space is quite limited for me. I have painted on the back side of some of my disasters, others as you say... cut them up for test paper.
BUT this one is GOOD!

I really like this painting.
Paint by numbers...ouch... not at all. It is very nice.
I love pen and ink. I think you did a wonderful job.

HI Linley, A good result.
After you have recovered from your 2nd eye operation, take a look at this good painting again, and then write down all the positive points you see in it.
Then decide what you wish to do with it.

Linley,
That's really a good start for line and wash.
Those brown tree trunks on the right are so beautifully textured.
Hope you give line and wash a chance. I didn't like it when I first started, now I see the value of it in certain instances.

Thankyou everyone! Cath, I'll take your advice. If Dennis thinks it's OK then maybe I am just letting the mid-winter blues colour my judgements. One eye has been done.. a huge success. I can now read without glasses. The second eye will be my distance eye. I am so looking forward to being able to see without blurring, and I'm sure it will help it painting and drawing. I'm told I'll see colours as brighter too, and less yellowed... which is one of the problems I see at present with this painting....the vegetation looks too yellow and European. Australian scrub is more olive and harsh. So we'll see. Thankyou all once again. Your encouragement uplifts me and keeps me painting.

Theresa M.....I've looked at it again, and decided it's not as bad as I thought... on screen anyway. Hope you find the Muddled headed wombat books, and don't forget Snuggle pot and Cuddlepie, and the Magic pudding. I used to love hearing about the Muddled Headed Wombat on the ABC radio Children's Hour.
