I've been painting; just not posting :)

I'm not real happy with the brown backround on this Iris. I've painted it twice, but I still think it should be darker, or maybe just a different color  What do you think?

Sue W,

Wow, have you been busy.  Iris is lovely and I like the background color and its textured look.  Matter of fact, I'd love to do a background like that.  How did you get that effect?

Beautiful work on the iris Sue. I think I did much the same as you concerning the background... I can't even remember the number of layers I ended up using.    It was dark though!  ;D    Not to worry, the flower steals the show anyway...as it should.  O0

:thankyou: Dennis, Robin, Danielle, Val and Mea for your nice comments! Mea, for the background I mixed some burnt sienna and ultramarine blue with the mud on my palette and just painted it on. Some of it seemed to lift or move when I went over it the second time. I also used the back of a piece of Strathmore 400 series w/c paper. Other than that, I can't tell you how it came out the way it did  :D

;D I started out with the burnt sienna and ultramarine blue as well..... however, by the time I was done I think I had included the kitchen sink!!!  :2funny:
