Well, Patricia, Denise is even prettier than her picture. and just as sweet.

The joke was on me because I was looking for a 70-year old woman.  I had misunderstood.  I had said that I was 70, but felt 20 years younger since I started painting.  Denise said that would make us the same age.  Duh, I was thinking 70, not 50.

Anyway, we sat by a nice fleet of fishing boats and had fresh seared ahi salads.  No leftovers to take home to the mynah bird.  (How's that for making this post relevant to the topic?)

Took some photos of the fishing boats when I arrived.  May paint the scene some day.

We look forward to meeting again, next time maybe with a couple other Hawaii residents on PB.

Denise did bribe me with some water color paper, hoping I might be converted from oil.  She also gave me one of her beautiful watercolor note cards.  They are gorgeous!!  She is so talented.

Wonderful time!

P.S.  Her botox never slipped.

Wow! Paint Basket members meet up! That's great to hear   Any chance of a photo of the scene you were at?

Tony

This is the scene outside the restaurant (Uncle's) where Denise and I had lunch yesterday.  Nothing like fresh fish right off the boat!  There were lots of other better scenes to shoot, but that was the closest to me.

:2funny: :2funny: :2funny:  Mea, I am screaming with laughter.  Gosh, I didn't realise how comical you are.  I so enjoyed reading your post right down to the inclusion of the "mynah" bird to make the topic relevant (good thinking ... keeps us out of trouble) and the Botox not slipping .... what a laugh.  I was sorry when your post ended for it was so interesting to read.  Yes, Denise is a beautiful soul and her work is outstanding.  What a lovely thought for her to give you watercolour paper as an encouragement to try and some of her notelets too.  Bless her for her kind heart and thoughtfulness.  Mea, just try watercolours, you may find that you like them besides that, it is interesting to try out different mediums.  Patricia

Patricia,

You made my day (and it's only 5:00AM).  I love to write and play with words, but painting has become my new love.  With the PB forum, I get to combine the two.

Starting Monday, I will be away for the next 5 weeks (Cape Cod, Massachusetts), but promise to try watercolor when I return.  Thanks for the encouragement.

I bought a Wi-Fi tablet so will check in to see what you folks are doing while I'm away.  Bringing some art supplies because my sister wants to try painting, too.  (I know she will be better at it than me - darn!)

Mea, I am with you there ... the Paint Basket dominates my life!!!!  All I can think about is painting.  Anyway, you have a lovely holiday and yes, you must take your paints along. It would be fun for both you and your sister to paint together ... wish my sisters were here with me.  Enjoy yourself and do check in from time to time if you can. Take care and God's blessings.  Patricia

Mea, you've got my number!  And that's no lie!  The years have already rolled over to the big 70 for me.

I wonder, did I lie about my age in my profile???

Age makes no difference when it comes to doing art.  I'm sure glad of that!

Your mynah bird is a real cutie.  This is fantastic work and I'm sure whoever gets your gift will love it!  :smitten:

Mea, what are you doing up at 5am! :o  Oh I know your little mynah woke you up ;D
So yes, Patricia,  my botox held up during lunch with Mea, who is a beautiful woman I have to say! I learned a little of her life and she is one that definitely lives her life fully and is always finding ways to help others. I think she is secretly the mayor of the town she live in ;) .
I'm so glad she found a new interest in PB and art to have fun with. I saw some of her work "in person" and she does such great art - hard to believe she just started! She gave me some watercolor paints which I will use today to make more notecards. I tested them out and boy, they are sooo rich, I love it!

Mea, you really do have a big heart so the notecard I gave you was very appropriate.

Will look forward to hearing of other PB people meeting up too :)  Take care all ...

Lillian,

You are right - painting keeps you young!

All the "old" ladies (and a few gents) in my senior citizen art class are so spry!!!

Keep painting or drawing or doodling!!

Hi,Mea I liked your first drawing and like every one try to help,Try to avoid outlines as-well on the bird(or any subject yo draw) as well on the shadows .
lines appear automatic through different color background start from very soft and  then gradually  increase
the definition as required. But I like the proportions and the coloring Well done

Thanks, gartolf

I appreciate your taking the time to help me make my drawings better.  I'm keeping a log of all the tips I get from PB members.  I review them every time I start a new work.  Your tip on not letting the outline show is a good one.

my grandmother had one of these birds many years ago, it could talk you to death.......lol. Great drawing and brings back fond memories, oh yeah this bird was raised in a bar before she got him, needless to say he had a very colorful vocabulary :)

Mea it does not matter what materials you have it's the finished work that counts and you have done very well you have put a lot of effort in your drawing and it shows keep it up you are coming along in leaps and bounds stay at it.  Ray

Thanks, Ray.  I did that mynah bird so long ago that he is no dead, poor fellow.  He was my husband's pet in the yard.  Followed him everywhere.  They were good friends.
