This is a first for me--first insect--or fly guy. I really feel sorry for this guy. It looks as though he was in a brawl and got the worst of it. Did I say first? last also!

LOL..you sound like me, Carol..LOL...but I think you did a wonderful job and your colors are great.  I think your twig may need some lightening on the upper half of it and I only say that because when Dennis was doing it, the application really caught my attention.  But for a first time?  Yikes...I couldn't do it if it were my 10th time!  Great job!

here is where I lost Dennis. I have to do a lot of detail work like finishing legs, wings, modify background, etc. Doina

Great start, Doina!  Just some touchups as you noted and it's done!  Other than that, I think you did a wonderful job!

Jennylynn, Carol, Doina, Patricia and Karen it`s fine to see so many different but all beatyful pictures of the same object.

Patricia!  I sure don't see any background challenges or any challenged elements here...you did a WONDERFUL job in both colors and details...I love it!

It was interesting today. We have had no power for a week after a once in forty year storm. When we got it back i found my computer had no sound so I have just been watching not listening but i tried to paint along anyway - a bit behind because i spent so long trying to get sound. My paper has buckled but i think I can smooth it out. Some details still to do and i will have to invent the second dragonfly or wait for the replay.
Jennylynn, Patricia and Doina - your dragonflies are all pretty - and i love the different colourings.

Karen - wonderful as always.  I actually really like the way your background appears!  Great job!

I'm with you on this one Mary. All I got was a background much darker than intended, and a bit of a yellow wash on the wings. I'd forgotten how strong the Artist colours are over the Cotman.  ???   Better get your  8) sunglasses on folks, things may be a bit bright before I get sorted here again.  :D :painting: :coolsmiley:

This is a re-post. Lillian and Mary thank you for your suggestions.  I tried to lighten the wings and the twig as you suggested.
Great job everyone: Jennylynn, Doina, Patricia, Harald and Karen too. Don't worry about that wrinkled paper, it makes for an interesting background. I let my light paper wrinkle all it wants.

So i coul'dnot follow the whole class, but i really enjoyed it. What i did was...i have drawn the template so that was my challenge last night. Maybe i start after the replay,  i really love all the paintings you all did, great job and well done!!!

Cheers,

Oh, wow!  So many dragon fly paintings!  Dennis will be proud seeing how popular his class is.

I think I'll fill up the rest of this tread if I name you all individually.  I'll just say you've all done very good work.  Well done!!!   :congrats:

Those dragonflies made a very timely visit, Pat.  Nice photos.   :thankyou:

:thankyou: :thankyou: :thankyou: :thankyou: :thankyou:  Mary, Carol, Riya, Lillian and Susan for your kind comments.

Mary I really appreciate your sweet comments but trust me, I am "background" challenged for sure.  However, Jennylynn said that she did her background using a number 20 brush .... I looked to see if I had that size but haven't so will be shopping this week to get one.  Hope it will help!! Only time will tell!!

Such a beautiful Gallery of Dragonflies :yippee: :flowers: Everyone has done a super job.   Looked simple,  eh?

Just a few small comments:
Carol - an excellent redo.
Karen - love the background - just darken up the legs.
Jani - you could easily have made it.
These are minor comments for so many paintings   O0
