Thanks everyone and yes you can put colour in there are different colour inks you can get. I sprayed them with varnish so I do not need to protect them with glass.

Zilpa, wonderful work. Love both of them. I have never heard of scratch painting and it certainly looks interesting. Thank you for showing us something new. Patricia

No I don't Val I am using Ampersand, I have some bigger ones on order from overseas they are cheaper to buy that way even though I have to pay for shipping.

Crazy that it's cheaper to ship sometimes than buying locally. Unfortunately, the Caribbean is expensive no matter which way you go!

Great job, I love the one with the tear and the dog is awesome.
Reminds me of the scratching we used to do at school, with oil pastels you put several layers of colour on top of each other, we used black for the last colour but you could use any colour and than scratch in it.

I played around with scratchboard for a while. (I'm more player than artist, I'm afraid.
) Just couldn't get the hang of negative work...taking away rather than adding color. Zilpa has it down in a big way.

Very good work on both Zilpa, they are quite striking.
I find the idea intriguing but gosh, do I have the time to try this too???

Go for it Natalie, it is how I got started on my white on black work. I did the scratch art first.

Judie,
You may find it difficult because you think you need to reverse the image in your head to crease a 'negative'.
If you read the few pages tutorial from Russ McMullin, he explains various misconceptions about doing scratchboarding, and thinking it is a negative is one of the commonest one.
It is someone at PB that post this reference, but I cannot recall in which Forum. The site is:
http://www.scratchboard.org/russhowto/index.html
It is worth reading. It is like drawing with a white pencil.
Have fun!
