Sally your dog looks beautiful and friendly :yippee: :yippee: :yippee:

You can draw without the scribe. The scribe just adds extra detail without having to carefully work it in. O0
You do get get different types of scribes with more or less tapered ends. I actually filed mine sharper as it was too blunt on the tip when I bought it.

Thank you everyone for your kind comments. I have so enjoyed doing the dog drawing course and still have dog no1 to tackle.  Drawing this particular dog has definitely given me more confidence with the softer pencils so I went back to the short haired dog and upped the tonal values.  I realise I'd been far too timid first time round.
Re the scribe, the one I have has quite a fine point. I think I just need to play around with it a bit.

Also make sure your pencil has a nice flat chisel point as well so that it doesn't go into the groove made by the scribe

    Maria, you have done so well with your drawing of the first dog. You will LOVE this course and will learn so much which will stand you in good stead in the future. Nolan is a fantastic teacher and imparts his knowledge so clearly for us to understand. Looking forward to seeing your progress as you go forward.
