Good job Bev. The chalks take some getting used to but the more you use them, the better they become. You have done well. Patricia

Dennis for your encouragement. . . I really needed that!! I do feel that I am gaining some control over where the pigment goes. Unfortunately, I used the wrong side, actually the smooth side of a light grey Mi-Tientes. I'm tempted to turn it over and do it again on the rougher side!!!
Jennylynn. . . .guess yours and my folks are all inside having dinner or something!
Mea . . . .I loved doing the sky and it would have been better if the cat had kept his paws off!
Patricia. . they do become easier, true, but I'm a long way away from becoming really comfortable with them.

Bev, there is really no right or wrong side of the paper where pastels are concerned. It all depends on the finish you want - smooth side for more detailed work or the rough side for more expressive work.

Everyone have done so well I barely dare (not) to post my image.
Congrats to Bev for your painting on the Newsletter!!!
Mine is p
ainted on Arches Rough paper that a first painted grey. The grey was a mix of Ultramarin Blue and Burnt Sienna. Medium value.
It is difficult to paint on rough paper as the pastel sits on the top. I will paint on Cold press next time!
The borders didn't get painted grey as you can see.
