Altogether a lovely painting - a bit "soft", but  nevertheless beautiful

I'm perusing all the pastel lessons to get an idea of what I can expect to do with pastels.

Dennis, what did you mean when you said the painting was "a bit "soft"?

Val, by "soft" I mean that the painting is mostly in the mid tone ranges in all the colours. The painting need some more darks in strategic places to make the painting a bit more "dramatic".

Look at it another way. If a circle is painting in only one tone then it appears flat. To give it volume it needs a shadow and a highlight to make it look like a sphere.

Hope this explains it O0

Another nice one, Judy.  You did well with making the rocks in the brook look real.

Judyth, it's wonderful.  I love the shadings and the little bridge is very inviting.  Great job.  Isn't this fun?  I'm in love with my w/c, but this is sure 'edging' in!  LOL
