Well done for a first try in pastels, Wili  As a beginner it is best to try to copy the examples as close as possible, as that is the way one learns the quickest. Take your time in doing the lessons. The tree on the right is falling out of the picture instead of leading the eye into the painting. Also study the shapes and sizes of the rocks closest to the bridge. Looking forward to seeing more of your pastel paintings

Crikey.... and I thought I jumped in over my head!     Great work for a first go Wili, but as Dennis has mentioned, take it slow to be sure you place things properly and understand the techniques as you go.     When I first started I was so impatient to get through quickly and become a great artiste!     It took a while for me to finally slow down so I could really grab onto the techniques and understand how and why things were done in particular fashion and order. The old cart before the horse thing! 

Anyway, take your time.... no punch clocks here. You'll be passing me by soon enough!

It is true, I painted the picture from my memory after watching the video. Neither I followed properly the template, nor the technique. Because I felt so sad and taught after I finished the fruit bowl.


The tree on the right is an "accident", you also see the first background translucent. A weeping willow always bends over the water. This departure is against his nature. The gnarled tree is full of energy and dances ardently. It seems to me that he wants to jump over the water. The weeping willow frightens horrified 

I will draw it again, with calm and concentration according to the instructions

  You have a wonderful imagination Wili, don't ever lose sight of it. What a fun story!     I think in order for the viewer to be able to grasp your story you would have to turn your trees into actual characters. I used to do that for my sister when she was young.

In the meantime, by following the lessons closely you will learn how to wield the pastels or other medium properly which will allow you to successfully create anything you wish with readability for the viewer.

Okay, I tried it again and I think, it is closer to the template now.

  Wow!  Such a difference!     Great improvement overall, the trees, rocks, stream.... 

Keep this up and you will advance very quickly.

Good work Wili. You improved the shadows which helped a lot to define the objects and grass look much vivid.

I have had endless trouble with this lesson, I kept getting lost, and one mistake lead to many.     Im not sure if I should just abandon it all together or truck on in the hope the end result is passable.

Keep going, it's just going through that fugly stage. Don't give up on it yet, once the rest of the painting is in and you get the details,darks and highlights in it will come to life. Just take your time.
