I use a squeezed out sponge cloth on the bottom and parchment baking paper on the top.  These are two recycled food containers from Costco.  I keep small to large plastic containers for whatever size palette I need; sometimes use the lid for mixing.  Acrylic paint stays soft for a week or more, longer with a little misting or or dampening the sponge cloth again.  I've seen professional artists using pie plates which can also be stored in plastic pie containers.
