Thanks for your helpful comments Patricia and thank you Natalie.
I have had another try with the foreground. I tried dusting off as much as i could and starting again but still can't do with pastel what i can do with paint. I did keep wiping off the whites at every stroke but I can't yet get a nice thin edge or reasonable spots. I would use pastel dust for spots from sharpening a pencil if I thought i could get it in the right place. I think I'll use a bigger format next time.
Thanks for the fast replay Nolan.

Karen,
Your water, especially in the foreground, looks so real.

Natalie, a great job on your seascape.
Jill, Natalie, Fruhulda, Steven and Jennylynn for your nice comments. Thanks too Jill for the tip of using packing tape to get the pastel off the paper. Never thought of that before.

Guys...
these are all fantabulous!
I just knew this was going to be a real cracker of a lesson! Just look at these!
Just a tip here... don't forget Dennis' tip about erasing with brown bread.
Here's a lark.... I think someone is backing me up on my decision to waylay the pastels and concentrate on my drawing and w/c..... we had NO internet yesterday!!!!

Val for your lovely and always valued comments. I was just thinking that the Paint Basket is getting so busy with all the mediums on offer, which is excellent and so lovely to see but I just cannot hope to do them all so will, like you, just concentrate on those of special interest to me. Of course, I would LOVE to do everything but it is out of the question. Patricia
