The thought that comes to my mind to title of your painting is " Family ".

To me, a quilt is all about warmth, love, people, good times and hard times and the quilt has always been there for families.  Even the material that was used to make them were from clothing of the family.

All the very best in choosing your title Alice.  I know it will be as special as your painting is ... what ever you decide !!   ?

Thanks, everybody!  I'm getting the idea.

Here is my brother, Rusty, sleeping peacefully under the quilt in 1971. Why did my dad think to take a photo? Maybe it's his 13th birthday. I love the teenager style bedroom, too.  My mom made the pig stuffed animal - I had a lion like that, too.

How about "timeless treasures".

Well, after all that I decided just to call it what it is...

"My Great Aunt Iris' Glorified Nine Patch Quilt"

I would like to enter it in contests and there are very, VERY strict rules now about copying other's works or even photos. I just saw a prospectus where if it's found that you violated this rule, you are banned for 3 shows! Most places have this no copying anything rule - paintings must be absolutely original.  My little county fair was very easy by comparison - they just wanted no class work or work done from copyrighted photos.

I used my photos for reference and did much of the work with the quilt right there.

Perfect name!   O0

I've read a few articles about national shows/competitions where artists have been busted for tweaking photos and entering the actual photograph.  I guess the no photo thing may be a reaction to that?

Yes, not only do they not want photos, they don't want you to paint FROM anyone else's photos. Don't ask me how they would know unless it's a famous photo on the internet. Originality is rewarded, that's for sure.

This has become a normal practice now.  That's why we can't enter any of the classwork we do on Paintbasket - it's protected under copyright.

The quilt has one more adventure that I had to put up on the end of the post of photos, and here, too. After putting it in the Sac Fine Arts show, I have decided to rename the painting, "The Wedding Quilt" after my Mom & Dad.
