:2funny: I go one of two ways, I either leave out the background (bit of a fear thing there), or go totally overboard and Oy! What a mess!!! We shall have to form a club for the "Seriously Background Challenged! Patricia may be interested in that one as well!  :2funny:

By the by, how are you doing Linley, hope your health issues are nothing serious.
Cheers, Val

A club for the "Seriously Background Challenged"????  Count me IN ... I am the queen of the background challenged for sure.

Linley, I hope your health issues aren't too serious.  I am battling a terrible cold which is now going on for two weeks and I still cannot get rid of it.  I will be so very pleased when Summer decides to arrive.

Val... Patricia... thanks for your concern. I have had chronic fatigue for many years now, and although I'm generally much better these days every now and then I have a bit of a relapse. It just means that for a while I have to take it easy and not strain the brain too much. And remind myself that this too shall pass... so it's not all that serious, just a very irritating nuisance.

Good to hear it's not serious then. Hopefully it will pass quickly and you can get back to your old annoying self!  ;)    :-* Love ya!

So pleased to hear that it is not too serious although chronic fatigue must be awful. However, try and rest as much as you can. While we are looking so forward to seeing the strawberries, we can wait, your health comes first Linley because without it, you have nothing.

Strawberries Binned! I actually broke the canvas board in half so I couldn't rescue it and try again. No matter what I tried to settle the thin paint.... thick paint, binder medium, hair dryer, several days drying under a ceiling fan, the red paint lifted every time I approached it with a damp brush. Maybe I'll have another go on another board some other time, but right now I don't think I could even eat a strawberry let alone try painting one again! :2funny:

You make me laugh.  :2funny:
Try just paper and not a canvas and if you love it you can then frame it O0

Teresa.... it suddenly clicked that after not painting with acrylic for a few months, I wasn't using my stay-wet palette  :heeha:!!!! No wonder the paint was sticky all the time in the hot weather! Of course I can't find the stay wet palette now, and I didn't like it anyway because the sides of the box are too high (interferes with mixing), so I'm improvising with an inverted ice cream container and putting the sponge in the lid. Glad I make you laugh.... I make me laugh too!  :2funny: So tonight I prepared another canvas and I'll have another go at the strawberries tomorrow.

If the stay-wet palette works, I might even be able to eat strawberries again... although they are out of season at the moment.

Surprize! :o
I tore up the original canvas board a did this one and tried again on a smaller canvas (because that what was what I had on hand).  This time very little water and lots of glazing medium, and a home made stay-wet palette and the paint went on like butter.
Been worrying that the background berry is the wrong shape... wasn't until I saw this photo that I realized that the berry shape is  ok, but the leaves are in the wrong place. I'll fix it later.
My home critic is worried that you can't see the details of the seeds on the second berry either. (He obviously doesn't understand focal points and atmospheric perspective... that's my story and I'm sticking to it.)

:tickedoff: 'ang abat, 'ang abat!!! There you are painting Nolan's strawberries free as you please, while I'm stuck shading his ball! Been at it most of the night. So not fair.  >:(

Right, now that's out of my system I shall try to be civil Sybil.     Linley you have done a wonderful job on the strawberries. Both look really good! Do remember though, when you put the leaves back on the rear berry to soften the focus on them a bit.  O0

 >:( Not fair I tell you..........
