1 - Introduction To Acrylic Painting

Dear JayJ;

I was able to purchase a small set of Atellier interact (7) color but, in order to get the colors needed to
paint along I had to buy 4 additional tubes to give me a good starter kit. 

I think  Atellier interact also come in 12 color which may have a better range of colors.   

I found the 7 color set is missing a few of the most important color such as French Ultra marine blue, burnt sienna  and Sap green.  You may want to check out the 12 color set I am not sure what colors range it has.   If you do decide to buy the Atellier Interact don't forget to get the slow medium and the unlocking formula.

seems like you will need to do some colour washed with the dark then seeing as it is transparent

  I seriously need help!!!


I know i need to use open acrylic but right now I only  have W/N Galleria brand...they are not student quality....I just cant blend smoothe like u Nolan.Also I find the dark colour is very transparent.!
I did two layers and I am still struglling!
I really want to be able to paint in acrylic

Hi Jay, one other thing to remember is heat is your enemy with Acrylic....it dries very fast (something oil painters usually have problems with)  Usually spray bottle should help both on the canvas and on paints to keep them moist. Just make sure it's only a MIST not a squirt or you will get blobs.   Using a retarder may help or a slow medium which will keep paint open longer for you to blend...also try small sections as Nolan suggested  in the lesson..paint one half in the dark then blend the light in then do the other side. Acrylic does dry fast so unless you can get them down and blended quickly you will have problems.

Thank u Nolan.I think I read somewhere to add touch of white to the transparent colours ....what do u think? I was going to try that out today.


Thank u  Jackie....I think I will try out smaller sections like u suggest......and of course, as u say, the heat here doesnt help.Although I work in AC but i guess that is very drying too!

adding white will grey down all the colours leaving all your paintings looking washes out

I'm quite happy with the strawberry but the leaves need more work and shadow lightened under the strawberry perhaps?   I've walked away from the leaves at the moment as I'm going to overpaint them if I don't 

Can't wait until tomorrow where we get to play with green and shades there of again.

looks great Jackie, well done The shadow needs to fade out away from the strawberry. Then there is also a lighter edge where the strawberry and shadow meet which needs to darken

  I knw the shadow was not quite right...I will play with that after the apples tomorrow..then I will have a few things to fix hahah.....I am going to try painting along, just hope I can keep up with the mix master...yes you Nolan    See you in class  I will be

Here is my strawberry lesson in progress so far. 

I would like to know if it looks like I'm on the right track with the seeds.  I've only started to shade a couple so far on the foreground berry.

Is there enough painting completed on the strawberry in the background? 

Any comments would be greatly appreciated..   thanks so much  ?

Excellent, Didwaud!!  You sure are on the right track!  I love your highlights...Wow...they pop.
Everyone else has done such a great job. I'm envious, but with high heat and three fans going, I'm going to have to wait til "cooler weather".
