oy....
You all know how well disciplined I am at following lessons when there's something exciting to try......
Details
I wanted to try some sky to see if I could do some clouds to finish Byron's house. Not quite what I was looking for but in the right direction. I needed to add more white into the bottom of the sky and decrease the value as I came closer to the horizon.
This one was done using the Staedtler Pastels, wow... far better than I had thought they'd be!
I was worried they were going to be a bit too hard, but no worries now!
It measures about 3.5" square, and contains 14 colours!!!
The thing about these pastels was the smack in the face with incredible colour!
Vibrant?.....WOW!!!

Thank you Mea... I've a long way to go with these, but it may be a quick trip with these!
I get such a rush with how quickly a painting can develop! Can't wait to experiment with these alongside the w/c
Such a high I'm beside myself!
No I haven't been inhaling the dust....just soaking up the colour!

Oh! Val, you are doing so well with the pastels and they are wonderful to work with because as you have found out, the colours are so vibrant and alive. I enjoy the pastel pencils so much too. Carry on the good work.

Thank you so much Patricia... I may even get brave enough to try that Mallard Duck!
Here I've only tried one green apple, and a knock up landscape, and already having visions of grandeur!
I've managed to see about half of Dennis' rock formations, and waiting (none)to patiently for his mist in the mountains lesson to open. I have so many photos of mountains and volcanoes to try!
OOOOh Patty I'm away!!!

Val you have enthusiasm which is contagious. Once you get into pastel work you will just love it as we all do. So carry on and don't give up for you are doing well.

Val, I am so excited to see your enthusiasm for pastels, they truly are just great and with your watercolor background you will just love the combinations. Try the smooth side of Canson and see how you like it. Love your color combinations.
I want to share something very exciting I am trying with watercolor and pastels combined. Tonja Sell creates these wonderful organic, abstract backgrounds in watercolor, often on UArt, sanded pastel paper and then tries to find a figure in the abstract and develops it with pastel using similar colors to the background. She happens to have a free video of a green apple also. Check her out.

Actually Patricia I may well be contagious! I'm still fighting this nasty bug we picked up in Guat. City. A lot of people here seem to have it.
Here's hoping the only contagious thing is enthusiasm.

Thank you Lynn
Actually I just finished drawing out another idea...on the reverse side of my Canson paper! I shall definitely look into Tonja Sell, sounds fascinating.

I must not fiddle, I must not fiddle.... I finished this fellow early this morning, and waited for better light to photograph. Should have hid it from sight!
I keep at this and I'll be able to play a jig in no time!
I feel I've learned why most of the pastel artists I've been watching paint big. I could see by my original sketch that the only way I could have done it was with the pencils, so I made it as big as I thought feasible on my current paper. Not a total disaster, but not even close to my original perception!
