Great start .... I see the beginnings of super pastel paintings .... just carry on and don't give up Val. Remember what Dennis always tells us "practice makes perfect".

Looks like the area around where I live right now...smoke from all the fires!! Keep the chalk handy, and the wet cloth nearby!!
Aren't they fun? I just love pastels, and Val, when you get the 'hang' of 'em, you will too! oooooops.

Are pastel pots what they sound like--pots of pastel pigment that you smear on with your fingers? Do we need a finger-painting forum segment?
Sounds like fun, Val. Would love to see what else you do with these.

Decided to open this thread once again and keep all of my pastel pieces in one place. Lessons will still be in their proper place, just makes it easier for me to find all of my mishaps and see where and if I've improved.
So to start off here's the infamous mixed media grapes!

This is one I had a go at while on anchor watch the other night. Ran out of one of the colours I was using so it will have to wait a while before it gets completed.
Pan pastel on dark paper doesn't cover very well.
Another lesson learned.

Ohhh, this one is going to be beautiful. I was in the frame shop the other day and saw a woman framing a pastel work. It was yellow flowers on black background. The contrast was stunning! Cant wait to see this one complete.
