 Look what popped up! Better late than never I guess.

I think it was 'interesting'.... definitely fun though Mea  ;D   I'm not quite sure what happened to this little fellow, mumps maybe? Just call me "Big 'ead" !  :2funny:

I do have a couple more pictures to post, the net is still being contrary but will try to get them up later.  O0

Forgot.... I am almost done with my frog! Still a bit of background to finish but the frog just needs final darks and highlights!    Quite excited!

I was experimenting again.... I kept hearing about working on 'sanded paper'. As usual I don't have access, BUT... Lloyd does have some sheets of sandpaper! Sanded paper, sandpaper....sounds close enough to me.  Yep, my froggy is being done on a 400 grit 9"x11" sheet of wet/dry sandpaper!

 Now what was that Trev was saying about 'crazy ass' paintings....  :2funny:

Val, your bird is just too fantastic and the background is so vibrant and eye catching.  Just  :smitten:  it.

As for the sandpaper .... I think you are very brave .... what would worry me is that the sandpaper would eat up my pastels in no time at all. Looking forward to seeing the outcome and your comments.

You are right about the paper eating up the pastels. I have been told that if you use a harder pastel as an underpainting and the softer pastels on top, you don't lose as much. That will remain to be seen! I wonder what the difference is between sanded paper and sandpaper

With the few pencils I have left, I found they just seem to disappear.... constantly have to sharpen them. I certainly won't be doing pastel pencil paintings on the sanded paper.   :cost:     :faint:

I had to pack in today, the wind is up this afternoon and my 'studio'  :boat: is just too bouncy!  :2funny:

My Red Eyed  Tree Frog[/b] ! Are you ready?!  :heeha:

Pastel on 3M 400grit wet/dry 9"x11" sandpaper.....

A few lessons learned here:

1) Wear protective clothing....

2) Make certain fan is off.

3) Put in background first (I was too excited) Couldn't wait to paint the frog.   :nono:

4) Make sure settee fabric is covered.

Ok.... should be safe to start....

Such a cutie, it is, Val.  Love the bright colors.  It has personality and a "look-at-me" attitude.

I love this, Val!! So bold and whimsical!    And your lessons learned are perfect! The times I don't  start with the background first are paintings I rarely finish - they're never correct. Can't wait to see what project you "hop" into next!
Cheers,
Sharon

We used to have whopping huge frogs in our backyard when I first moved to Hawaii.  Now I hardly ever see any.

Ta much Sharon, he was quite fun to do.... until I got to the background    That will teach me, if I'm lucky.  ;)

I was actually working on Byron's house, the sky will remain cloudless as the paper just won't take anymore pastel. At least I managed to give it a bit of gradation so it does look better.

My problem now is what to do about the sand! Of course in the light down here it looks almost white, which if left that way looks blah! I've been trying colour combinations but just can't seem to get a sandy looking colour. I've packed it in for today and will try again tomorrow.

I'm open to suggestions on that......

I just thought I'd post Byron's House and see if anyone has any suggestions for the sand...   :help:

The photo has come out a bit bright! Anyway, good enough for now.

:thankyou:   Patricia. I've promised myself (and a few others) that I would refrain from pointing out the bits I made a right cock-up of.  :stress:     :-X          :2funny:
