Gorgeous bird Bev. The Cardinal males are beautiful. I also did a Cardinal in pencil and it turned out nicely too. I think it is in my album somewhere. Must take another look. Patricia

He's a beauty! Very intense color, We have a family of living in a tree next to our house. The drafting film really makes the background!

Lady P. . .you are right, the males are sooo vibrant and the little females are so drab in comparison! We had a pair visit the feeder and I was really hoping they would nest and stay, but no luck.
Liz. . . those darn feathers took forever. . . .he does have a nice, rather cheeky pose doesn't he!
Lisa Gale. . . . I really like the drafting film (we call it Mylar) it's so nice to be able to get the BG right up to, and sometimes, even over the subject!
I used mostly the Polychromos pencils (Faber-Castel) and the colours are really brilliant. Glad you liked him!
There is a Humming Bird in the works, but don't anyone hold their breath. . . . . I am the slowest thing on 2 feet!!Meanwhile, I'm almost finished a portrait in CP which had me
and
I may or I might not post her when she is done. . . . . .

Bonjour mon amie Bev. Lovely drawing the hair looks pretty good to me. One or 2 suggestions, you may make the chin a bit shorter (do not have the picture to verify) the nose ring is not in the proper place it is to high it should be in the "wing" of the nose. The eyes are awsome but one thing too many highlight (Dennis said somewere that a picture sometimes has light from all angles and that is why so many highlight) you have to use your artist liscence.
Hope this make sence mon amie.

This is great Bev-her skin is smooth!
Only 3 things stand out and I think they are easy. Her middle teeth-I think the left one can be shaved a bit on the right hand side to meet the other tooth. Like a very shallow w in the middle.
Her neck is very light compared to her face. I actually think her chin is correct.
She needs more color to her skin-burnt sienna.

that is a pretty lady. Look again at the chin's angle you should lift the right side just a bit it will make a big difference. I would also add a bit of tonal value on the left side of her face hairline to eyebrow and up and down and on the right hand side of her neck. hope this helps. ok for the ring. thank you for putting the picture my friend or I did not see it before.

Very nice! I would thicken her eyebrows somewhat like the photo shows more hair on them. I showed my 2 granddaughters a recent news clipping that thick eyebrows are the newest fashion trend, trying to discourage them from waxing or tweezing their eyebrows. They have their Papa's bushy eyebrows while me, Nana, have almost none to speak of. Anyway, I would show more hairs in the eyebrows.

very good likeness Bev, well done
What is bothering you about the hair at the bottom are the straight hairs, just hide them with more curly hair
