Hi All... new to this painting gig.  I have seen numerous videos and the artists seem to use varying degrees of tilt to painting.  I realize that tilting the paper will cause paint to 'run' and is a valid technique.  However, some artists seem to tilt the painting continuously.  Some are virtually vertical all the time.  I paint flat on foam core/gator board and just tilt for special effect.  Any thoughts on this?  Seems that a severe tilt would require the use of a thick(er) paint mix?

Have fun.
I look back in the bed when I get up and if I am not in it this will be a good day!!!

Hi, Ed.  :welcome: Welcome to Paint Basket! I an a watercolor painter, and only tilt my paper when I want a special effect. Most of the time it's horizontal-flat. Many of us, including me, only began painting recently and have acquired much good advice here. I look forward to seeing your paintings. Yes, watercolor can be challenging, but it's also fun.

The amount of tilt you put on your board is strictly a matter of preference or certain technique. Experiment a bit and see what works best for you and the style of painting you want to create.  Have fun!  :heeha:

For all the watercolours I have done to date I have not tilted my paper and it seems to work good for me. (I am no pro)

I prefer just a slight tilt, hardly noticeable.
