Uh-oh, don't panic Robin! You may find you have better luck with them. I had a very difficult time with them when doing the tiger, so I stopped using them and finished by using just the pan pastels. I am determined to finish this as I love the colours in the rocks and the door. I think once I'm through I may try again using just the pan pastels.
Don't worry Robin, it's going to be fine..... after all, just look at me!
Dennis...reservation please, rubber room for one!

I have the Stabilo ones and Derwent. Derwents seem a tad softer with some colors.

I have the Derwent and Faber Castell pastel pencils, like Natalie I found the Derwent ones are a little softer in some of the colours. Still looking for a soft white one though, so I still use a stick for any whites that are needed. Although to be honest I only use the pencils for the finer finishing details, just more used to having a stick in my hand I guess

Thanks Danielle, I'm almost halfway down the right side....whew, not sure if I like it. Really must get some more white pastel paper, I think between the colour of the paper and the difficulties with the pencils is what is putting me off.
Anyway, I am determined to finish, so doing it in bits and pieces when not with mum.

Uh-Oh ..... I killed it. Decided before I went any further I'd try putting the light grey unifying wash over the stones. Now my colours are really dull and muddy looking. I was actually starting to like it.... I'll take a photo tomorrow. I don't think there's much help for it, but you never know.

I did mine on a navy blue mat board with pastel ground and pencils. I got lost doing the stones.

Looking forward to seeing yours finished Val-when you get better! (Try the ground-it's called Tri Art Media Ground-it's a Canadian product)

Great job Natalie
I see you have small stones all the way over as well! I didn't see the large stones on the right until I saw the video. Pastel ground?....I'll have to look that one up. Ta for the info.

Natalie,
So much to like here - wood grain on the door is fabulous. Stones are so realistic, although they seem to get small really fast in the top right corner. Is that the way it looks in the reference? If so, they must have run out of the big stones too soon.
Wish the flowers in front stood out more; they are so pretty. I'd love to be able to make my rocks look as good as yours.
I really like this one.
