After having seen Cyril's apples in the Techniques lesson in Pastels, I got interested in doing apples in watercolor.

Here's my apple study.  I can see that I need to learn more about how to make that depression at the stem much more realistic.  I still can't make a good shadow, but I am getting better.  Need to make better highlights.

But, I still feel I did a pretty good job because two years ago I couldn't even draw an apple.

Your suggestions for improvement are always appreciated.

Mea, you will need more shadding on the apples. Start the shadow under the apples not half way under and gradually lighter.  The Second top one looks like it has wrinkles, you should soften it.   Hope this helps.

Hee, hee, Danielle.  I see those wrinkles now.  They don't look as wrinkly on the painting, but it was how the light hit when I snapped the photo.

Thanks, I'll work on the shadows.

Thanks, Robin.  Granny Smith's are my favorite so I guess I worked harder on that one.

Excellent work on the apples. The depressions at the stems and the dent in the apple are spot-on

Thanks, Dennis.  I enjoyed doing those.  It's helpful to do more than one so I can compare  -- a feature that may look right in one might be wrong in the other.  I just want to keep learning.

Thanks, Val.

Thanks, Sharon.  I'd need to do a better job before a frame could go on these.  They were a practice piece, so I could easily do them again.

Definitely repaint them and make it a larger piece. Reminds me of something Andy wahrhol would have painted!

Yes I see the likeness of an Andy Warhol painting.
We framed one of his originals several years ago.  His paintings are huge.
Not for hanging in kitchens, lol

Gee, thanks, ladies.   Andy Warhol, huh?

OK, if I do redo it, should I make 4 different kinds of apples.  I absolutely have to have the Granny Smith, though.  The lone green one adds lots of drama!

Robin,

Pink Lady?  Sounds like a drink.

I'll have to check it out.  Thanks for the suggestion.
