Val, this was our model tonight. It was very difficult drawing the male form. This is after 3 20 min sittings. Took me most of 2 of those to just try and get proportions. It is on toned charcoal paper with vine charcoal and white charcoal pencil. I will say though that the pencil could have been used better than I did
Feel sorry for you if you are trying to draw from my feeble, beginning drawings. My friend suggested that I keep them all as my "Before" pictures to gauge my progress. It is fun to get messy though--eh Val? I blend with my fingers, which is a no, no because it leaves oil on the paper so I need to challenge myself to blend with a tissue.

Lynn,
Looks like you are having the same problem I had today. My gallery photos appear for a few minutes, then disappear.
I'm sure Nolan will hadle it tomorrow.

Perhaps the image/gallery issue may be something to do with the migration to a new site... ?

Adrian,
I have sent a message to Nolan. I'm sure he'll get it all sorted out soon.

This will indeed be a challenge Lynn. Yes I am working from your sketches/drawings, although you might not have guessed from the last one!
Definately keep all of your drawings as they will not only show you where you have improved, but also areas where you need to work more. Very helpful.
I love getting in the charcoal...we tend to become one as it were
Yes, I blend with my fingers as well... I also will do that with my w/c. Just have to literally be a part of my work I guess!
I'll have to dig out my other charcoal, I have already found 2 of my white charcoal pencils so I'm halfway there.
Strange as it may sound, I'm finding myself thinking back to my premed classes, following bone and muscle structure/contour, and I'm actually remembering some of the names!!!
Before I go, I shall have to add that I think you did just fine with this fellow. Can't wait to tuck in!

This was our model tonight. I tried a different approach for fun. Did a quick charcoal sketch and then scribbled the values in with pastel. I tried to get a bit more of the figure in and felt I was a little faster. So fun and I think it is going to help me loosen up some.

Lynn,
I could not see the image until I clicked on the X at the top left corner.
Wow, it's really pretty. Love the combination of rusty and blue colors. You got a lot done in a short time.
I'd love to try that.

Thanks mea. Some models are more fun for me than others, or perhaps it is just the pose. You should try this. It's a real blast. You have this fleeting moment and then they are gone but definitely loosens you up

Got another skull from my mom and a stage light to practice charcoal when I don't have a live model. This was harder than it looks. I have great respect for all you graphite people out there. I suppose this is similar but easier.

Wow! This is great Lynn. I unfortunately haven't done anything more as I'm still fighting the mildew battle. Actually found some mould right up in the forepeak so instead of drawing I'm scrubbing!
I do find charcoal easier to work with than graphite, easier for corrections

Oh Val, so sorry out the mildew. Living in Louisiana, we are always fighting it and I am often up to my elbows in clorox. Hope you get time for art SOON. What's more important anyway
Also, I love how you drop these little tidbits about your exciting life! Did you say you were in medical school?
Mea--Weird subject I know. I think my mom got it off of my uncle's farm in the Georgia O'Keefe days. She used to hang it on the wall and cast a heavy shadow to paint it. I might try that for a fun drawing. Creepy huh?
Thanks Natalie, the measuring for proportions has to be done quickly and I think I got them this time. Not always easy.
