I suspect your contrasts are fine, it is just the scanner that washed out the contrasts - let's see what it looks like with the next scan and the shadow in. You are doing a great job so far Adrian

Here is the next version, added the shadow under the car, and also added a bit more value on the bodywork.
Took photo with camera again rather than the scanner.

Thanks... I don't like the building reflection on the bonnet (hood). May give it another go sometime...

Oh, yes, Adrian, I see what you mean about the reflections.
Look more like people standing near the car to admire it. The short person would be me!!!

if the reflections look like people, or something else it doesn't matter - leaves it up to the viewer's imagination

Looking at the image again now, I think the problem with those shadows is that they do not extend onto the bumper/fender at the front of the car. That part is 'constant tonal value' and should be darker where the shadow is.
