Thanks so much, Nolan!  So happens I don't have Prussian Blue and Raw Umber, now I can mix them myself if need be!  The color chart idea is a good one, though initially it may seem a boring thing to do.  But notes in a 3 ring binder aren't too convenient to use as a handy chart would be!

  Duhhhh. Good morning Ella.  I realized I was actually on the tips browser! Oh well, some people get up at 5am but only wake up at 10! Sorry Nolan but here is my contribution;-
Cut 2 pieces of white paper, big enough to just block out surrounding detail.  Punch a hole in the top middle of each paper.  Now hold the one paper's hole on the photo where you are choosing a color and it will become clear what the color must be.  The other paper will be used by holding the paint color behind it so it shows through the hole. Now compare the two.  Easy.  Don't know how well it will work with paints but it is a blessing with Pastel. Cheers

Thanks for the tip about extended palette... I made small color swatches of all my colors in my tool box...7x10 cm..
the swatch is only 6 cm so above I wrote the hue name/#/brand... now I can write the alternative recipe on the back.... these deck of card swatches can fit in a small zip bag....

I did try the sunset painting... but ran into some problems... first I chose a piece of 240 grm  textured paper/card... didn't prime it... big mistake.... then since I am practicing using just a knife the paints sort of stuck on the card and really wouldn't blend  or move....also my colors were a big off ... blue too bright... lt yellow could have been lighter. etc also the format was smaller than yours... about A4.... so not much room....mountain colors were a disaster....

 Result somewhat rough sunset.... had fun and not discouraged

I like the color swatch idea. If you have a magic shop in town, you can buy a blank deck of 52 cards to put your swatches on and they'll last a very long time on that type of hard card.
Your local printer's shop might have some old business cards you could use the backs of for your swatches.
Hobby Lobby has a free give a way color wheel that opens up like an accordion with lots of info on it but the back of it is make for color swatching. Is that a word? 
That's what I'm now using...
