Haven't done much sketching lately so killed time while listening to a football game yesterday.

Just a sketch, but light years better than anything I could have done three years ago.  I know, I preach "Don't be afraid of the darks," but just didn't follow my own advice here.

Still I am pleased that it looks a bit like the photo.

Funny, I've just pulled out a couple of drawings I never got around to finishing. Taking a bit to get back into it. Good on you for tackling a portrait to start back. I've got a couple to finish up. If you can jump back in..... I should too! Thanks for the boot!  ;D

Today I did a still life sketch of my husband's wood turnings.  I enjoy drawing wood grains.

I'm still troubled by shadows and shading, especially when there are multiple light sources.

Apart from the shadows on the shelf it is hard to see where the light source is Mea, looks as if it should be coming from the left but the center piece contradicts this. Nice detail on the grains though.

Yes, I agree with you both, TeresaM and Bill.  Shadings and shadows are off.  Had too many light sources in the room when I did it.

I am making a serious effort to draw even more.  I am TRYING to do a 6-inch strip of paper a day with a few quick sketches of anything I can lay my eyes on.  Here's the first four days worth.  Since they paper is on a roll, some of the shapes look a little wonky cause the paper was not flat when I took the photo.

Again, all the credit goes to Nolan's Let's Draw Course for starting me on the right path.

Thanks, Patricia and Val.

Looking around right now for a couple things for the next 6-inch strip.

Thank, Dennis.  I look back now at things I did last year and can actually see amazing improvement.

Encouragement from you, Nolan and my PB family have made all the difference!

I had missed this thread, Mea! I enjoyed watching all your sketches! I admire your perseverance to draw better and compared to the first sketch the last one is a fantastic improvement!  O0 O0

Added a little color to these pansy sketches.  Planning on doing some for a spring art show so needed to practice a bit.  Freehand!

Any suggestions for improvement?
