Hi,
Total newbie question:
How long does it take for globs of acrylic paint to become too dry to paint with from a palette? thanks!

Denise, acrylics dry out pretty quickly! Just keep a spray bottle at hand and spray a mist over them while you work. If you do this regularly, you should be able to complete your painting. (Same with your canvas. Spray a very fine mist across it when you feel like it's getting hard to blend) I'm not sure you can store them for later use. I'm sure you will get other suggestions from the acrylic painters on here.

Denise,
You can store left over acrylic on paper over a wet, but not dranching, sponge in a well scelled tub (like tuperware) in the fridge (not freezer) for a few days... a week for some paint. On the palette it cannot be used in less than one day.

You are painting with a water soluble medium so water or chemicals can unlock the mix to some degree. Certain brands are designed to lock and unlock so you can modify the properties of the paint. Atelier is one such acrylic so please watch the link below to understand what I mean.

Hi Denise,
Sorry for the delay in responding, however, I just found this post.
If you go to a craft store (I found mine at Michael's), you can get small paint storage containers - they come 10 or so to a package. If you place your paint in them, I have had the paint last a few weeks - they are pretty air tight.
I believe I paid about three dollars for mine

Hi Denise, how's your acrylic painting coming along?
I like to use a stay wet palette with sponge cloth and parchment paper that have been made wet, but not dripping; the paint will last up to a week easily. I use food containers with lid.

Annie, Bryce and Paula - this is a VERY late thank you.....I appreciate your responses
Hi Liz, thank you too. I was only using the acrylics for the mixed media projects (which I thoroughly enjoyed!). I'm back to watercolors

Hi Denise, you're really good with watercolor; I love your art!
I have only tried water color pencils, gouache once, pen and ink a couple times with Dennis, love drawing with graphite pencils, but have yet to try water color paint.
Hi MAL, I don't remember when I last painted anything original. I think I have a touch of 'Artists' Curse' though 'Artist Block' sounds better. I look at You Tube, art books; look for things I want to paint then talk myself out of it
. But I will one day soon- paint big surf at Waimea Bay or something like that! Thanks for thinking about me!
