I used this technique last about 10 years ago. Sometimes one forgets that it reverses the actual image. Pictures from glossy magazines work very well in transferring the colour.
The soap is actually for reducing the surface tension of the water used in the painting, making it very much easier to spread the paint without streaking, or at least minimizing it. Acetone or thinners will not affect your paper at all. Enjoy the technique

Hum, not sure about nail polish remover... it is not pure and most have a dye in it. Acetone is very cheap, similar price as rubbing alcohol and it come in small bottle like 0.5 liter. Even cheaper in the US 😉
