This class is a real time step by step tutorial where I show you:

3) Give you an insight into how he laid his brush strokes down and even
4) how to tell the order in which he laid those brush strokes
Although we are not trying to create a stroke for stroke replica in this class, you will non the less come out the other end with your own version of his fabulous painting.

Loved the class/course because I needed to know what skin colours to also use for a portrait I was doing of my grand daughter. I have been finding it very hard to blend. My problem with following you is that my computer is upstairs and my paints are downstairs but I will try. Working on husband for me to get an iPad which will be useful in this instance and for the future. This is a lovely painting to replicate I have always loved it.

Very complete and easy to follow instruction. A must for anyone painting portraits even long time artists. Well done Nolan.

Although I’m in my seventies, I’ve only been painting for about a year after attending an evening class at a local college. Painting portraits was something I really wanted to attempt but thought it was far too complicated for my level of experience. Anyhow, with some apprehension, I took on the class and found that with Nolan’s approach to explaining the processes involved in the mixing of the colours and the blending techniques to achieve the variations in skin tone.
On completing the class I ended up with, in my opinion, quite an acceptable attempt at a portrait and can’t recommend highly enough, Nolan’s approach to teaching.
The question now is whether to enrol in the portrait drawing course or to dive in to the portait painting course.
Many thanks,
Dennis Morgan.

I am glad you enjoyed the class Dennis 🙂
I suggest following the portrait painting course first. That will allow the knowledge that is still fresh in your mind to tie up with that of the course. Good luck.

Hi Nolan
just picked this title up an hour ago and watching through it just have to say I really admire the technique and approach in your videos… I know I can learn stuff from this to build on what I’ve learned already. Money very well invested! Thanks!

I picked up this title for 2 reasons… 1 have only recently started playing around with Acrylics and prior to completing this had only ever done 3 Acrylic pieces… The second was to attemp a portrait which I guess I’ve never had the patience or confidence to attempt. This was a brilliant exercise and I learnt quite a bit from it,,, Extremely well presented and narrated title,,, It’s the first lesson I’ve ever taken in Art outside of secondary school and have to say well worth every cent!

Such an incredible course! I have never painted a portrait in my life so this was my first one and it came out really well! I’m so proud of my final work. Everything is explained so well from beginning to end, and you get to learn a lot too. I highly recommend this to everyone and really appreciate the time and effort put in by Nolan!

My first portrait. Challenging but a learning experience.

I think I am too much of a beginner, I found it very hard, I was able to do the scarf and clothing but the face was impossible. I tried several times and couldn’t get any where close. I think I would need an in person class to understand what I was doing wrong.

This is an intermediate / advanced class. It would be great if you post your drawing on the forum so I can give you feedback on how to improve 🙂

I actually liked this class a lot better than I thought I would (it was my first class with Paint Basket). Well worth the money and I learned a lot!

I am still going over many parts of the class. Find I am much slower and have a hard time keeping paint wet when time to blend. Instruction on mixing paints was great. Getting the dark colors were hard for me to match his. The class is fun and am going to try it again and again.
Always an adventure.

I have just started this class but have taken others with Nolan and learned a lot. I like that this class is divided in 4 segments because I cannot work for long periods of time. I really like it being on video so I can back it up and see it over and over as many times as I need.
